This canyon home is designed to nestle within a grove of western sycamore trees. Mimicking the unique multi-colored bark, the home’s material palette features natural materials with soft brown, grey and green tones. The two structures sit opposite one another on the 72,000 square foot lot, accentuating the central focal garden with privacy from all angles.

The main residence and guest structure are thoughtfully oriented to frame views of the sycamore canopy while maintaining a quiet dialogue between built form and landscape. Deep overhangs and operable glazing invite dappled light and seasonal breezes into the interior, blurring the boundary between indoors and out. Weathered wood siding and flat planted roofing echo the surrounding bark textures and canyon hues, allowing the home to recede into its setting rather than compete with it. Native grasses and drought-tolerant plantings soften the transition between structure and site, reinforcing a sense of calm seclusion within the grove.
